Let's recap of what we know...
Horikita finally achieved her long-awaited goal—reaching A-Class.
While savoring her victory, she resolves to stay focused as the new school term begins. She exchanges a few words with Ayanokoji, who sits beside her once again, believing they will continue to fight together.
However…
After the opening ceremony, Horikita returns to the classroom, only to find Ayanokoji missing.
Then, in a state of visible distress, their homeroom teacher, Chabashira-sensei, delivers a shocking announcement:
"As of today… Ayanokoji has been transferred from this class to C-Class."
The entire class is thrown into chaos.
No one can believe it.
“A transfer from A-Class to C-Class? Impossible.”
“This makes no sense.”
“This has to be a joke.”
But Chabashira-sensei assures them—it’s the undeniable truth.
Reactions:
Horikita is completely stunned, unable to process what just happened.
Matsushita, unusually flustered, raises her voice in frustration.
Kushida pretends to stay calm and tries to steer the conversation.
Karuiizawa simply states, “I don’t know anything,” with a detached tone.
Sudo boldly declares, “Ayanokoji is too important to lose!”
Hirata, maintaining composure, attempts to organize the discussion.
Some students begin speculating—was this about private points? Was Ayanokoji blackmailed?
Without knowing Ayanokoji’s true intentions, the class is left in complete disarray…
Unable to ignore the situation, Horikita and Matsushita decide to confront Ayanokoji and uncover his true intentions.
With Ayanokoji gone, it seems likely that Matsushita will step up as a key figure in Horikita’s class from now on.
However, when they finally find him at a café in Keyaki Mall, he is already deep in discussion with Hashimoto, Morishita, and Ichinose, seemingly strategizing something.
This leaves Horikita and Matsushita feeling completely out of place.
They ask him directly why he transferred, but…
"Sorry, but I have no intention of answering that. The only thing that’s certain is that my transfer from A-Class to C-Class isn’t a dream or an illusion—it’s real."
Just like that, he shuts them down.
This leaves Horikita in a daze, unable to focus for weeks…
A Conversation with Hirata and Sudo
Later that day after school, Ayanokoji runs into Hirata, Sudo, and Yukimura.
As expected, they immediately demand to know why he transferred.
Ayanokoji responds coldly:
"I left without a word to throw the class into disarray. I transferred to C-Class for my own benefit, in exchange for private points."
His selfish explanation only fuels Sudo’s frustration, while Hirata remains calm and composed, standing out in contrast. However, they decided to stay friends with him anyway.
Ayanokoji’s Arrival in C-Class
After completing the transfer process following the opening ceremony, Ayanokoji heads to 3rd-year C-Class with Mashima-sensei.
Even Mashima-sensei seems to be struggling to process this sudden change, but he introduces Ayanokoji to the class nonetheless.
Ayanokoji gives a simple and neutral self-introduction.
However, not everyone seems happy about his arrival—many students are wary of him rather than welcoming.
To gain their trust and prove himself as a capable leader, Ayanokoji will need to demonstrate his abilities.
At Morishita Ai’s suggestion, he ends up sitting in front of her.
Volume 1 of the 3rd-year arc is packed with Morishita’s bizarre metaphors and quirky way of speaking.
TL NOTE: Looks like both she and Hashimoto will have more screen time going forward!
Alliance with Ichinose’s Class
At the end of the first day of the new term, Ayanokoji heads to a café in Keyaki Mall with Hashimoto and Morishita.
TL NOTE: By the way... news of Ayanokoji’s transfer has already spread across all grades and classes.
As the three settle in after placing their orders, Ichinose joins them. It is here that the full details of the alliance between C-Class and D-Class are revealed.
Rules of the C-Class & D-Class Alliance
The alliance will last until all four classes are evenly matched.
In one-on-one special exams, the class with fewer points will be given the win.
No formal contract will be signed, allowing flexibility to adjust plans as needed.
Benefits of the Alliance
✔ More shared information, making daily strategy planning easier.
✔ Greater effectiveness in academic, sports, and special exams.
✔ Ability to exchange private points (PP) when necessary for special exams.
✔ No contractual restrictions, allowing for wider strategic options.
Risks of the Alliance
✖ There’s a chance the agreement could be broken or betrayed.
✖ Ichinose’s class may become overly dependent on the alliance, making them a burden.
✖ If Ayanokoji is seen as an unfit leader, the entire strategy could collapse.
Hashimoto’s Choice
After the year-end exams, Ayanokoji presented Hashimoto with two options:
"Either give up your wealth and accept me, or refuse."
TL NOTE: Context is Hashimoto was saving up for transfer classes so that's why he likely had a significant amount.
500,000 PP from Ryuen as a reward for betrayal during the Survival and Elimination Special Exam (Y2V10)
600,000 PP from Nagumo during the exchange meeting (Y2V11)
5,000,000 PP for surviving as the traitor in the Year-End Exam (Y2V12)
➡ Just from these, he has at least 6.1 million PP for sure.
If Hashimoto refused to invest in Ayanokoji’s transfer, their cooperation would never happen.
Given that Hashimoto had already made enemies in his class, saving up 20 million private points to transfer on his own would be unrealistic.
Betting on Ayanokoji seemed like the safer gamble, so he took the risk and funded the transfer.
Additionally, as a condition for transferring, Ayanokoji required unanimous class approval and a collective contribution of private points.
New Character: Asuka Shiraishi
The day after the opening ceremony.
To gain a better understanding of C-Class, Ayanokoji arrives at school early.
However, he isn’t the first one there—sitting in the seat next to his is a cute girl named Asuka Shiraishi.
OAA Ratings:
Academics: B+ (76)
Physical Ability: D- (34)
Critical Thinking: C+ (57)
Social Contribution: C- (44)
Overall: C (54)
She excels academically but struggles with athletics. She also isn’t the type to actively socialize, making her somewhat similar to Shina Hiyori.
Though she has had no prior interactions with Ayanokoji and hasn’t made a name for herself in special exams, she definitely seems to have a unique personality.
By their third year of high school, even though they have never spoken directly, they’ve at least passed by each other in the hallways. Shiraishi’s impression of Ayanokoji is:
Academically above average but physically not very strong.
Not the type to actively engage in conversations.
Rarely seen socializing with students from other classes.
While most of their classmates remain skeptical about Ayanokoji, they are also intrigued by his decision to transfer from an upper-ranked class to a lower-ranked one.
At first, Shiraishi’s conversation with him feels lighthearted. However, as the conversation progresses, she subtly starts probing into his true intentions—showing that she’s quite sharp.
On the other hand, regarding Yoshida, who openly has feelings for her, she coldly remarks:
"So that’s why you couldn’t stand me hanging out with other guys on weekends? Or maybe you were hoping things between us would develop?
Even if we were the last two people left on Earth, I still wouldn’t choose you."
TL NOTE: Savage... Poor Yoshida ( ;∀;)
Despite being aware of her popularity with the opposite sex, she doesn’t seem particularly pleased or bothered by it. For now, she remains a bit of an enigma.
A Gathering for Ayanokoji
A few days later, Shiraishi invites Ayanokoji, her friend Nishikawa, and Yoshida (who has a crush on her) for a small outing—a mix of a welcome party for Ayanokoji and a casual hangout.
Shiraishi actively tries to engage with Ayanokoji, treating him as an interesting subject of observation, almost like an "experiment".
TL NOTE: This scene is very funny NGL.
Ayanokoji, on the other hand, can’t shake off the eerie feeling she gives him.
Meanwhile, Nishikawa, another new character, seems to enjoy teasing people—especially Yoshida.
Their OAA stats remain unknown for now.
Ichinose vs Ichika – A Psychological Battle
On the first Saturday of the new term, Ichinose hits the gym with Ayanokoji. After parting ways, she is unexpectedly approached by Amawasa Ichika.
Their conversation turns into an intense yet entertaining psychological game.
Amikasa openly name-drops Ayanokoji, making "cryptic" remarks that hint at a "special relationship" between them.
Despite this, Ichika keeps a calm and composed smile, refusing to be provoked.
Then, Amikasa suddenly closes the distance and bluntly drops a bombshell:
"Ichinose-senpai~ Aren’t you getting a little too full of yourself lately?"
TL NOTE: She literally spoke my mind...
"I mean… you did sleep with Ayanokoji-senpai, didn’t you?"
For the first time, Ichinose shows a hint of surprise.
However, she doesn’t lie—she clarifies that while she isn’t dating Ayanokoji, they share a special bond.
Amawasa then continues teasing her, maintaining control of the conversation—until Ichinose strikes back.
She casually drops a single phrase:
"White Room."
TL NOTE: SKULLLLLLLLL
Ichinose had only overheard this term once during the deserted island exam, yet it instantly shakes Amawasa.
She immediately assumes that Ayanokoji told Ichinose about it, becoming visibly distressed.
Though Ichinose actually knows absolutely nothing about the White Room, this reaction confirms that Amawasa likely has ties to it.
TL NOTE: We got our OG Ichinose back before GTA 6 lmao...
Realizing she just lost her advantage, Amawasa re-evaluates her opinion of Ichinose and prepares to make her next move toward her own unknown goals.
Special Exam: "Majority vs. Minority Academic Test"
A week into the third year, the first special exam is announced
Matchups:
A Class vs. D Class
B Class vs. C Class
Exam Format:
Majority Battle:
Every student participates.
The class with the higher total score wins (counts as 2 victories).
Minority Battle:
Each class selects 5 representatives.
Students are ranked from 1st to 5th, and they compete against the same-ranked student from the opposing class.
A win in each individual match counts as 1 victory
Winning Conditions & Points:
The class with more victories wins.
The winning class earns 100 CP (Class Points).
A 7-0 clean sweep gives an extra 50 CP, while losing all 7 matches results in a 50 CP deduction.
The Key Factor: "Penalties"
This time, an interesting twist is introduced—Penalty Point
Each class starts with 100 Penalty Points.
These points can be used to reduce an opponent’s exam score.
Only usable in the Minority Battle.
Additional penalties can be purchased for 50,000 PP (Private Points).
This means predicting the opponent’s representatives and strategically applying penalties will be crucial for victory.
Horikita’s A Class
With Ayanokoji gone, Horikita is still struggling to find her footing
Their opponent? None other than Ichinose’s D Class
Major Questions
Should they compete head-on in an academic showdown?
Will Ichinose even prioritize academic strength?
How would Ayanokoji handle this?
Horikita can’t get him out of her mind, causing her focus to narrow.
TL NOTE: She took bunch of pages for sobbing about it...
Sensing this, Hirata steps up to lead class discussions
Later, Kushida, fed up with Horikita’s hesitation and self-pity, firmly puts her in her place, snapping her out of it...
TL NOTE: One of the more satisfying moments in the story.
Ryuen’s B Class
After declaring war on Ayanokoji at Keyaki Mall, Ryuen heads to his usual karaoke spot for a strategy meeting
Attendees:
Katsuragi, Ishizaki, Albert, and Ibuki
Hiyori is absent, which is surprising.
TL NOTE: It seems Hiyori was shocked by Ayanokoji’s transfer to C Class, but she doesn’t appear in Volume 1 at all... lol
Since academic battles are B Class’s biggest weakness, even if they use their penalty points effectively, their chances of winning are slim.
So, instead of aiming for victory, Ryuen decides to use the exam to delay Ayanokoji’s acceptance as C Class’s leader!
Former Sakayanagi’s C Class
TL NOTE: Calling it former Sakayanagi's class cuz not everyone is acknowledging Ayanokoji as their leader like Ryuen.
Thanks to Hashimoto’s influence, the class decides to use this special exam as a test to see if Ayanokoji is truly fit to be their leader
Luckily, they are facing Ryuen’s academically weaker class, so victory is almost certain.
However, how Ayanokoji strategizes and whether he can predict Ryuen’s moves will be closely observed by his classmates, especially Shimazaki.
Later, Ayanokoji, Hashimoto, and Morishita hold a strategy meeting at a café.
Ayanokoji instantly detects a first-year spy sent by Ryuen, impressing both Hashimoto and Morishita.
TL NOTE: Ayanokoji’s gentle approach to mentoring Yamamura was a wholesome moment.
Ichinose’s D Class
Ichinose receives intel on A Class from Ayanokoji and begins formulating a strategy
Since D Class and A Class are evenly matched in academics, the key to victory will be outsmarting them through the INFORMATION WARFARE.
Ayanokoji’s First Battle
In Ayanokoji’s class, a heated argument breaks out between Hashimoto, who wants to entrust the special exam strategy entirely to Ayanokoji, and Shimasaki, who still refuses to acknowledge his abilities
Then, Sanada speaks up.
“Judging from this special exam, the key factor seems to be deciding who receives penalties. If we leave it to Ayanokoji, he’ll predict who the opponent will put in the minority battle and who on our side should be chosen to avoid being targeted…Can we count on him for that?If so, I’d be willing to entrust this to Ayanokoji.”
Agreeing with Sanada’s approach of evaluating Ayanokoji based on the exam results, Shimasaki concedes. It is officially decided that Ayanokoji will take charge.
After school, Ayanokoji, Hashimoto, and Morishita meet at a café to discuss their exam strategy. While debating Ryuen’s tactics, Ayanokoji suddenly remarks:
“It might be interesting to hear what they think when they arrive.”
He speaks as if Ryuen is about to walk in at any moment. While Hashimoto finds this odd, two first-year students sitting nearby suddenly get up and leave.
“Those two were first-years that Ryuen sent.”
Ryuen had already established contact with the first-years.
Ayanokoji sees right through it.
And just as expected—Ryuen appears before them.
Before Ryuen can say anything, Ishizaki, standing beside him, bursts out:
“Why the hell did you transfer to Class C?!”
Ishizaki’s pained outcry.
Well, Ishizaki had been trying to recruit him for a long time.
After pushing Ishizaki aside, Ryuen declares war and leaves.
As he walks away, Ishizaki adds:
“Oh, and you should meet with Shiina as soon as possible. She’s been pretty down about this… not as much as me, but still.”
TL NOTE: Hiyoriiii… ( ;∀;)
Horikita and Kushida
While Ayanokoji and Ryuen were having their discussion...
On her way back from Keyaki Mall, Kushida notices Horikita sitting on a bench, looking down with a gloomy expression.
"Kushida-san…?"
"Why the question mark? I’m not even gonna ask what you're doing here—you're obviously waiting, hoping to ‘accidentally’ run into Ayanokoji, right?"
"That’s not it."
"Yeah, sure. It’s so obvious. There’s literally no ‘accident’ here. You’re just… kinda a really clingy girl, you know?"
Horikita should be focusing on strategy for the special exam, but her mind is completely occupied with Ayanokoji instead.
Later, there's even a scene where she cries alone in her room.
TL NOTE: She took lot of pages just to sobbing about it. 😭
Karuizawa & Ichinose
On the morning of the first special exam of their third year, Karuizawa spots Ayanokoji sitting on a bench.
A few weeks had passed since Karuizawa and Ayanokoji parted ways.
However, Karuizawa’s feelings for him remained strong, and every time she saw her former boyfriend, she felt a painful tightness in her chest.
TL NOTE: Yare Yare...
Still, determined to move forward, she takes a step toward Ayanokoji, intending to greet him.
But before she can—
"Good morning, Karuizawa-san."
A voice calls out to her.
It’s Ichinose.
A fateful encounter between two girls who have fallen for Ayanokoji…
TL NOTE: I'm not telling what they talk about... ^^
Ryuen’s Strategy
After parting ways with Ayanokoji, Ryuen gathers Ishizaki, Albert, Katsuragi, and Ibuki for a strategy meeting about the upcoming special exam.
"It should be obvious, but no matter how you look at it, this is the worst possible exam for Class B."
Katsuragi states the hard truth.
Since Class B struggles with academics, a simple written exam puts them at a serious disadvantage.
That means the key to victory lies in penalty distribution.
For Class B to win, they have no choice but to buy a large number of penalties using private points.
But doing so carries a huge risk.
It costs a massive amount of money, with no guarantee of victory. If they lose after spending all those points, the financial and emotional damage would be devastating.
Despite these risks, Ryuen remains confident.
"Neither Class C nor Ayanokoji himself plans on losing. But deep down, they’re still afraid of the ‘what if.’ That tiny sliver of doubt. That’s exactly why this battle is worth fighting. If we can crush him right at the start of his new journey, the psychological advantage alone will be worth more than any real difference in ability."
Ryuen is fully fired up.
Ayanokoji’s New Daily Life
On Sunday, Ayanokoji meets up with Shiraishi and Yoshida to strengthen their friendship.
When he arrives at the meeting spot, Yoshida is already there—having shown up an hour early, clearly eager for this outing with Shiraishi.
Ayanokoji casually asks:
"Do you like Shiraishi?"
From what he’s observed, it’s obvious.
Even Shiraishi, the one on the receiving end of these feelings, has noticed.
Still, Ayanokoji decides to confirm.
"Wha—!? N-no way! What are you even saying all of a sudden?!"
I see.
So that means he definitely likes her.
TL NOTE: Yoshida is giving off some serious Watanabe energy here.
Just then, Ryoko Nishikawa arrives—the person who will be joining Shiraishi for today’s outing.
"Morning~! Yoshi, Ayanokoji-kun!"
With her carefree attitude, Nishikawa immediately teases Yoshida, who had been hoping for a one-on-one date with Shiraishi.
Ayanokoji's impression of Nishikawa:
"She seems to enjoy messing with people. If I had to compare, she’s similar to Amane Amasawa in personality."
Then, Nishikawa warns Ayanokoji—apparently, Shiraishi has a lot of experience with men and seems interested in him as well.
Shortly after, Shiraishi arrives, and the four of them head to karaoke.
First Special Exam for 3rd-Year Students
One week after the new school term begins, the details of the first special exam are announced to each class.
"Comprehensive Academic Exam – Minority Vs Majority"
This is a written test consisting of 100 questions (total score: 100 points) covering 21 subjects across 7 major academic fields.
The test will be conducted as a class battle in two formats:
Class vs. Class: Competing based on the total score of all students in a class.
Small Group Battle: Each class selects five representatives to compete individually.
The matchups have been predetermined by the school:
Ayanokoji’s Class (Class C) vs. Ryuen’s Class (Class B)
Horikita’s Class (Class A) vs. Ichinose’s Class (Class D)
Special Exam Results
Ichinose vs. Horikita
Ichinose’s Class won with 6 victories and 1 loss!
Horikita’s Class | Ichinose’s Class
1st Round | Ken Sudo – 66 pts | Yuki Himeno – 69 pts |
2nd Round | Wang Meiyu – 82 pts (-25 penalty) | Ryuji Kanzaki – 75 pts (-10 penalty) |
3rd Round | Teruhiko Yukimura – 84 pts (-25 penalty) | Hitomi Tsube – 77 pts (-10 penalty) |
4th Round | Nene Mori – 69 pts | Yume Kobashi – 68 pts |
5th Round | Rokusuke Koenji – 72 pts (-25 penalty) | Ryota Beppu – 71 pts |
Total Score Battle | 2633 pts | 2712 pts |
Ichika’s Class managed to successfully assign penalties to three students in Horikita’s Class, securing a dominant victory.
The Key Factor: Ayanokoji
The mastermind behind this outcome was none other than Ayanokoji.
He anticipated that Horikita would struggle to form a solid strategy, leading to Hirata taking charge of team selection. Using this, he leaked key information to Ichinose’s Class, which influenced their battle strategy:
If Hirata led, Wang Meiyu was likely to volunteer.
Koenji, despite having strong test scores, had a weakness that could be exploited.
Yukimura would likely volunteer even if he received penalties, making him a target.
After this crushing defeat, Horikita’s Class fully realized the danger of having Ayanokoji as an opponent.
Ayanokoji vs. Ryuen
Ayanokoji’s Class won with 6 victories and 1 loss!
Ayanokoji’s Class | Ryuen’s Class
1st Round | Kiyotaka Ayanokoji – 100 pts (-100 penalty) | Daichi Ishizaki – 40 pts |
2nd Round | Ikkei Shimazaki – 81 pts | Nanami Yabu – 47 pts |
3rd Round | Shinobu Fukuyama – 79 pts | Mio Ibuki – 43 pts |
4th Round | Kosei Sanada – 83 pts | Reon Kondo – 47 pts |
5th Round | Kyomi Sawada – 80 pts | Minori Kinoshita – 50 pts |
Total Score Battle | 2880 pts | 2327 pts |
Although Ayanokoji’s Class secured victory, Ryuen’s true goal was never to win.
Ryuen’s Strategy: Undermining Ayanokoji
Knowing that the odds of winning were extremely low, Ryuen abandoned the idea of competing for victory. Instead, his strategy focused on preventing Ayanokoji from gaining the trust of his classmates as a leader.
Ryuen correctly predicted that Ayanokoji would participate in the small group battle and strategically assigned him a -100 penalty to ensure he suffered a major loss.
To avoid receiving penalties from Ayanokoji’s Class, Ryuen intentionally selected five academically weaker students, making the penalties ineffective.
Through this approach, Ryuen successfully disrupted Ayanokoji’s plans, forcing him into a difficult position despite the overall victory.
Translator Note
This is Nemesys and the above stuff you read was the spoilers summary for Volume 1 of the 3rd Year Arc!
Well, well—this volume was another exciting read. I rate 9.2 out of 10.
Since this is the first volume of the third-year arc, the intense pace of the second-year arc has been reset, making this more of a fresh introduction to a new chapter.
A big focus this time was on the reaction of both C-Class (where Ayanokoji transferred) and A-Class (where he left).
In C-Class, familiar characters like Hashimoto, Morishita, Yamamura, and Kito are still present, but now we’ve got new additions like Shiraishi, Yoshida, and Nishikawa.
The most intriguing of the new faces is Shiraishi, who seems fully prepared to set a honey trap for Ayanokoji. What exactly is she up to?
On the other hand, A-Class was all about Horikita’s breakdown—way worse than expected.
When Kushida called her a "clingy girl," I couldn’t help but think, "Wait, Horikita?!"
Is it some kind of rule that characters who are bad at romance end up becoming emotionally heavy? Like Ichinose?
The biggest surprise, though, was Karuizawa helping Horikita recover in the end.
I thought she’d be way more affected by her encounter with Ichinose, but she didn’t seem that shaken.
Honestly, after Volume 12.5, where she acted strong during the breakup, it’s hard to believe how quickly she bounced back.
Like… after spending all of second-year’s second and third terms in full "I love Ayanokoji-kun" mode, how did she recover so fast?! What happened in that short time?!
Ichinose doesn’t feel like her old self anymore—she’s fully embraced her "witch-like" aura.
At this point, among all the leaders, she stands out the most (excluding Ayanokoji).
The way she casually dropped the "White Room" name, despite only having a vague understanding of it, and then tricked Ichika into revealing more information—absolutely brilliant.
Honestly, I wouldn’t be surprised if Ichinose eventually uncovers the truth about the White Room.
As for Ryuen… well, he suffered a crushing defeat at Ayanokoji’s hands this time.
But to be honest, Ayanokoji didn’t even do anything special—he just did what was logical.
So it didn’t really feel like Ayanokoji "beat" Ryuen—more like Ryuen self-destructed by misreading how his strategy would affect those around him.
He went for an uncharacteristically "gimmicky" move, but it didn’t work on Ayanokoji.
Still, I’m excited to see what new strategies Ryuen will come up with next.
Ayanokoji himself was his usual self—cool and calculated.
But this time, I found myself more entertained by his interactions with Morishita and Nishikawa.
Anyways... This volume was packed with must-read moments!
A phone call between Nanase and Tsukishiro.
Ayanokoji defeating Kito in a fight and gaining his loyalty.
A secret deal between Ayanokoji and Kushida.
Shiraishi having unclear feelings for Ayanokoji.
and much more.
With Ayanokoji’s abilities becoming more and more well-known, it’s going to be exciting to see how he moves next!
Thanks for reading :)
